Green-
On the scene.
.
The river dyed-
The hair too, true and tried.
.
A prepared dish-
The color of fingernail polish.
.
Necklaces and bracelets worn-
Always a new thing born.
.
Snakes are also green-
No longer in Ireland seen.
.
As a special person drove them away-
Enough for a celebration on St. Patrick’s Day.
.
Had St. Patrick lived today-
An invitation, to my yard would
have been mailed today.
.
For a snake free yard would be grand-
Surely much agreement would be on hand.
.
Green-
On the scene.

It’s a cinch-
To get a pinch.
.
If not seen-
Wearing green.
.
For underway today-
Is St. Patrick’s Day.
.
Green here-
Green everywhere.
.
Green bows-
Green painted toes.
.
Green eyes-
Natural we summize.
.
Green rivers-
Green snakes that sliver.
.
It’s a cinch-
To get a pinch.

As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.
.
But the best part of the holiday scene-
Was catching someone at school, not wearing green.
.
The majority of us prepared ourselves at least a day ahead-
Because not wearing green could turn into quite a dread.
.
Getting pinched was not something to look forward to-
So to avoid the issue, we’d do whatever we had to do.
.
Whether it be wearing a green shirt-
Or green earrings, or a green skirt.
.
Or a green necklace, or a green ring-
Basically we could get by with just about anything.
.
But if one wanted to use their green eyes, it was a cinch-
That it didn’t count and it would lead to that dreaded pinch.
.
St. Patrick, may have driven the snakes away-
But if you weren’t wearing green, it would not be your lucky day.
.
Of course until I got grown, I always wanted to travel over that rainbow-
To find the pot of gold at the end of it, a story that we all well know.
.
May we all have the luck of the Irish, as our rivers flow green-
Amongst the shamrocks, green ale, leprechauns, and corn beef sandwiches
that will be heavily seen.
.
As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.
