As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.
.
But the best part of the holiday scene-
Was catching someone at school, not wearing green.
.
The majority of us prepared ourselves at least a day ahead-
Because not wearing green could turn into quite a dread.
.
Getting pinched was not something to look forward to-
So to avoid the issue, we’d do whatever we had to do.
.
Whether it be wearing a green shirt-
Or green earrings, or a green skirt.
.
Or a green necklace, or a green ring-
Basically we could get by with just about anything.
.
But if one wanted to use their green eyes, it was a cinch-
That it didn’t count and it would lead to that dreaded pinch.
.
St. Patrick, may have driven the snakes away-
But if you weren’t wearing green, it would not be your lucky day.
.
Of course until I got grown, I always wanted to travel over that rainbow-
To find the pot of gold at the end of it, a story that we all well know.
.
May we all have the luck of the Irish, as our rivers flow green-
Amongst the shamrocks, green ale, leprechauns, and corn beef sandwiches
that will be heavily seen.
.
As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.

On the road, I am supposed to leave two spaces in between-
But, after two other cars cut in, that inbetween space, is no longer seen.

3. The grass, in the front yard.

As drought as it may be-
In my front yard, all green is what you
will see.

1. Folks who do not see the red light.
2. Folks who do not stop at the corner before entering
a main road.
3. Folks who weave in and out of traffic, gaining no ground.
=========================================
The reason that those weaving, do not gain ground-
Because when I stop at the next red light, their happy
faces are also found.

1. Be seen, but not heard.
2. Always wear clean underpants.
3. Do not play with your food.
=============================
But adults do-
In the kitchen, with recipes, that are
brand new.
