As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.
.
But the best part of the holiday scene-
Was catching someone at school, not wearing green.
.
The majority of us prepared ourselves at least a day ahead-
Because not wearing green could turn into quite a dread.
.
Getting pinched was not something to look forward to-
So to avoid the issue, we’d do whatever we had to do.
.
Whether it be wearing a green shirt-
Or green earrings, or a green skirt.
.
Or a green necklace, or a green ring-
Basically we could get by with just about anything.
.
But if one wanted to use their green eyes, it was a cinch-
That it didn’t count and it would lead to that dreaded pinch.
.
St. Patrick, may have driven the snakes away-
But if you weren’t wearing green, it would not be your lucky day.
.
Of course until I got grown, I always wanted to travel over that rainbow-
To find the pot of gold at the end of it, a story that we all well know.
.
May we all have the luck of the Irish, as our rivers flow green-
Amongst the shamrocks, green ale, leprechauns, and corn beef sandwiches
that will be heavily seen.
.
As a child, I always looked forward to St. Patrick’s Day-
Especially as the parades and the celebrations got underway.
-2007-
Trees filled the forest-
All the way through, at best.
.
Then they began to build-
The fate, of the forest was sealed.
.
Home after home came-
And then the forest was never again
the same.
.
Three trees stood, in the aftermath-
Alongside, was a well thought out path.
.
All went well, until someone wanted to
cut the three trees down-
And, then all, of a sudden, much protest
was found.
.
For the three trees tended, to beautify,
the neighborhood-
Standing, tall, as they should.
.
Suddenly, to go green-
Appeared on the scene.
.
Trees filled the forest-
All the way through, at best.
-2011-
The weather began to warm
up a bit-
Which led me, to the backyard,
to sit.
.
I noticed things like I’d never
noticed before-
For me, a nature surprise was
in store.
.
There were birds, that had
gone unseen-
There were things sprouting
from the ground, that were
green.
.
There were funny bugs, all
around-
On the trees, and on the ground.
.
There were limbs down, that had
fallen from the winter-
To pick them up, I was glad to stir.
.
The sky was just as blue, as it
could be-
I was grateful for the nature, that
God had created for me.
.
The weather began to warm
up a bit-
Which led me, to the backyard,
to sit.
