The lawn was nice and clean-
Waiting for that prized possession,
to come on the scene.
.
We had mowed and raked the yard-
We must admit that we had worked hard.
.
We had trimmed and mulched and all of
that-
As the day, wore on, we wore a hat.
.
We swept and picked many a weed-
All working together, with no one in the
lead.
.
And, as we looked back we could see-
Yes, this was one fine day in our
County.
.
Inside we went straight to bed-
We’d done our best, and looked to the
morning up ahead.
.
The reward came as soon as the sun rose-
Into the yard, we skipped and hopped on
our toes.
.
The Houston Chronicle had arrived, and
was sitting in our well manicured yard-
To quickly pick it up to read, was not a
bit too hard.
.
The lawn was nice and clean-
Waiting for that prized possession,
to come on the scene.
