With no modern dishwasher on hand-
Dishes used to be washed manually
all over the land.

It was a Monday, and it was so nice-
That I decided to put on some red beans, to have with some rice.
.
This was always done back in the day-
For Mondays were preserved for washday.
.
As the beans simmered, the clothes were washed and rinsed by hand-
There were clotheslines all across the Louisiana land.
.
To use after scrubbing and rinsing those dirty clothes-
To be hung out, and oh, they smelled so good to the nose.
.
Of course, this was just a part, of the washing chore-
For the ironing had to be done, and then the clothes put away in store.
.
But when all was over and done, it felt nice-
To know that all one had to do was boil some rice.
.
Red beans and rice after a long hard worked Monday-
Yeah, this was back, in the day, always done this way.
.
It was a Monday, and it was so nice-
That I decided to put on some red beans, to have with some rice.
