Voting (2004)

I could stay home or I could decide to go out-

That is what having the right to vote is all about!

 

iIcould stay quiet or excercise my voice-

It’s all up to the me, it my very own choice!

 

I could wish that I sort of went-

Or i could make sure that my vote was well spent!

 

And when it is all said and done-

However it turns out I can still say that I won!

 

For I live in a country in which many have paid their dues-

In order to guarantee, as far as voting goes, my right to choose!

 

Three Ways To Attempt To Keep Someone From Voting (2016)

1. Scare them.
2. Poll tax.
3. Reduce those places for a
large population to vote.

That ridiculously extra long voting line.

 

Take The Time To Vote (2006)

 

I wish that I would have voted in the last election-
I wish I could have put in my two cents’ worth, to make my selection.

.
I wish that I didn’t let it pass me by-
For whatever reason, I just don’t know why.

.
Maybe it was the “other” things that I was doing that got in the way-
Or maybe I just plain forgot. What else can I say?

,
Let’s see, there is the early voting or through the mail that I could have done-
I must say that there are quite a few days involved in either one.

.
Or I actually could have gone on the selected day-
I admit it; I just downright let those too many other things get in the way.

.
There is shopping, working and others things to tend to-
I guess I didn’t have enough time left over when I was through.

.
There is clothes washing, dusting and cleaning the car out-
If I’d had a little time left over, I might have voted after running all about.

.
But, wait! Did I happen to forget that voting in this country is my right?
Thanks to all who did and are leading the fight.

To ensure that I can continue to have the privilege to vote-
I guess by not voting last year, somehow or another I missed the boat.

.
There are too many reminders, for me to forget-
It’s all over the TV, covered in the newspapers, and even flashing at me on the Internet.

.
I think that this year I will push everything else aside-
And take a few moments to vote, with much dedication and pride.

.
And in case you’re wondering what really kept me from voting that very last time-
I really did! I just wanted to encourage those who didn’t, in my own expression, through rhyme.

Let’s all make an effort to remember-
To get out and vote this November.

Time For Everything Else (2008)

Throughout the years, I’ve learned to use
my time well-
I’ve got it down pat, as in the
following you can tell.
.
I’ve had time to go to the show-
At least three times in a row.
.
I’ve had time to go out and shop-
Til I almost had to drop.
.
I’ve had time to get my nails done-
While out and about, and on the run.
.
I’ve had time to play that video game-
Until home from school, the kids came.
.
I’ve had time to bowl a game or two-
With enough time for dinner, when I was
through.
.
I’ve had enough time after work, to go out
to dine-
When I feel the need to do something, I
never feel like I’ve put myself in a bind.
.
I’ve had enough time to spend the evening
at the bingo hall-
Although, unfortunately, they never
dropped my winning ball.
.
I’ve had enough time to watch the news-
To try and figure out which politician
will win, or which will lose.
.
So why have I never taken the time to
go out and vote in any election?
Because my time is valuable, and obviously
it is not something, that I feel, needs to be
done.
.
VOTING IS A PRIVILEDGE THAT SHOULD NOT
BE TAKEN SO LIGHT-
AS A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES,
FIND THE TIME, TO PARTICIPATE IN A PROCESS,
THAT IS YOUR GIVEN RIGHT.

We had to wait in line-
And, really and truly,
we did not mind.

Not to say, that it was
fun-
But, it was something
that had to be done.

For we had no choice-
And, surely, we would
not raise our voice.
.
It could not be helped
and we were stuck-
Because something had
had gone amuck.
.
So, we decided to end
the suspense-
And, just try a bit, of
patience.
.
Of course, we waited too
long-
But, then again, we are
strong.
.
We had to wait in line-
And, really and truly,
we did not mind.
