Leftovers (2015)

We’ve all heard of spring cleaning. In the springtime we clean up after the long winter. We refresh everything, that we haven’t touched or seen in a while.

.

This is not the only occasion to do this. Several days after Thanksgiving we do the same thing, in one specific area. It’s called the refrigerator. We begin to clean out the leftovers. The cranberry sauce is in full run. The celery sticks are truly wilted, and the green bean casserole has gone to mush.

.

You still want to hang onto that bit of turkey. One more round of turkey sandwiches haven’t expired yet. It’s not that you really want one more, it’s that it would be a shame to throw out a good piece of meat. In the end, Rover will enjoy it, after many second thoughts about it.

.

In my house, there are not any black olives to throw away, for we ate them all. Actually we ate a bunch of them before the dinner got started. One of my daughters and myself just love the things. We eat them all year round, but at Thanksgiving we go overboard.

.

Another thing that had to go was the pumpkin phase. During Halloween the room fragrance smell became a regular at our house. We did the pumpkin coffee creamer, and of course we had pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. The pumpkin smoothies and eggnog were delicious too. Enough of the pumpkins.

.

We finally decided to get rid of the “real” pumpkin sitting outside on the patio.

.

Back to that cleaning of the refrigerator. It is about empty now. There is a reason that the leftovers had to be thrown out. Its now ready to be re-loaded. Christmas eggnog, and cookie dough, along with other special holiday treats. I won’t say a word about that upcoming New Year’s resolution. It is not compatible with the mentioned treats up above.

.

“Thankful for the leftovers to be thrown away-
For there is much needed room, as we prepare for Christmas Day.”

THREE THINGS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER (2005)

1. Thanksgiving.

2. Christmas.

3. The new year.

ONE THING IS CLEAR-
WE’RE ABOUT TO BREEZE THROUGH THE REST OF THE YEAR!

Irene (2014)

I remember when you set the table-
Looking good, as best as one was able.
.
I remember you standing in the kitchen preparing the turkey-
It was huge and you made it look as simple as it could be.
.
I remember you making giblet gravy-
To go with the dressing that was delicious and fluffy.
.
I remember your complete acceptance, and making 3 generations
feel like they were number one-
Like an angel on earth, to properly get that job done.
.
I remember the whole house smelling like a favorite bakery-
And decorated by black olives and of course cranberry.
.
I remember you crying whenever all sat down to eat-
Each and every family member, in their special seat.
.
I remember you saying that you were crying because of
Thanksgiving past-
For all of the family members, that were gone, and of
the memories that you had amassed.
.
For you too had the same memories that I am sharing today-
For when the holidays come around, we all remember the
special ones who are in Heaven including you, that have gone away.
.
It is now my time look back and remember, and create
memories too-
Thank you for sharing a piece of my life, for thinking of you,
always helps me to manage my way through.
.
One last thing I remember all of those dishes that had to be
washed and put away-
I don’t think that will ever change, on any given Thanksgiving Day.

.

I remember when you set the table-
Looking good, as best as one was able.

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose (Grandmother’s Cooking)

Grandma is gone and I miss her so-
But the memories of her continue to grow.
.
What exactly was all of the buzz?
Well she accepted me exactly as I was.
.
During the holidays I can feel her around-
As she was always in the kitchen cooking bound.
.
The turkey would be perfect and the dressing was yum-
She would stay at this task all day long in full hum.
.
And when it came time for the blessing she would cry-
And being younger I never did know why.
.
It was because she remembered her childhood with
her own grandmother-
And missed her also like no other.
.
Now that I am older and my grandmother has gone
to Heaven-
I too cry to remember the love, to remember when.
.
Looking at my grandchildren I would hope that they
would feel the love for me too-
To know that generations from now the love
would continue to accrue.
.
Thank you grandmother for enriching my life-
Giving me strength To enjoy and day and fight the strife.

Three Reasons That We Do Not Know What Season It Is (2009)

1. The weather is funny.

2. The leaves do not know whether to
stay on the trees or to drop off.

3. Santa arrives before the turkey is celebrated.
================================
Santa should put his plans on hold-
So that the giving thanks plans can first unfold.

THREE DIFFERENT TIMES TO GET THAT HOLIDAY SHOPPING DONE (2004)

1. At the end of summer through the layaway.
2. Right after thanksgiving.
3. At the last second with the eve approaching.

THAT LAST MINUTE SHOPPING-
WAITING FOR THE PRICES TO BEGIN A DROPPING!

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose # 673 (Turkey In The Oven)

I remember when-
The turkey went into the oven.
.
To cook for a while-
To brown in grand style.
.
To in the end be able-
To highlight the Thanksgiving table.
.
To carve, after the blessing, and then
to eat-
With every family member awaiting, in
their seat.
.
I remember when-
The turkey went into the oven.
