We hollered across the plain-
With the prospect, of local information, to gain.
.
We waited, for word, by pony express-
From loved ones, to a specific address.
.
Snail mail eventually took its place-
Back then, it was considered letters delivered in haste.
.
And, then came the telephone-
With one person navigating, letting your personal
business, to the whole town be readily known.
.
The party line was certainly a go-getter-
Sharing a line, with just a few folks was a trend setter.
.
To remember the days, when we got a call-
And, had to stand, in the corner, and talk on the phone,
that was attached to the wall.
.
Pay phones helped to ease the load-
When we traveled elsewhere, on the road.
.
Cordless became the rule-
To talk out in the yard, became the normal cool.
.
The cell took its place in line-
Conversation everywhere is what we could find.
.
And, now when we holler at that special friend-
Instant messaging or a text is what we send.
.
Simple words, across the screen-
No vocals involved, just the message seen.
.
We hollered across the plain-
With the prospect, of local information, to gain.
.
