Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose # 569 (Until The Day Is Done)

We used to play, in the summer sun-
From the early morning, til the day was done.
.
Outside we had so much fun-
Of course, using our imagination.
.
A program or two, on TV, we’d get to see-
And, then the rest, of the time, outside we
would be.
.
Climbing trees and making mud pies-
Counting bees, and catching flies.
.
Running, til we could run no more-
Always wondering, what next, would be
in store.
.
Playing hide and seek-
With that once, in a while peek.
.
Sitting under a tree-
Talking of what we would do next,
and what we’d grow up to be.
.
We used to play, in the summer sun-
From the early morning, til the day was done.

Dirty Hands And Mud Pies (2015)

All of the rain that came last week reminded me of the mud pies that we used to make in the neighborhood. It was a different time, and we used a lot of resources outside, in which to play.   We’d gather up some mud, and flatten it to where it looked like a cookie. We didn’t need an oven, for the sun the next day would harden the play time cookies. I always like to pick some chinaberries, to decorate my cookies. punching them in guaranteed them a place, and that is where they would stay.   Leaves and rocks were involved also. Making the play time cookies were fun, but decorating them was the icing on the cake.   Of course, we never ate our outside made cookies. It was all in fun. Actually when we were finished with them, we’d slam them down on some concrete, and watch them break-up.   To think that back in the day, we’d actually get our hands dirty. To tell the truth, we’d wipe off our hands, and probably not wash them, until it was time for dinner. Sounds gritty, but there was no reason to wash your hands, when you were still paying outside.   Climbing trees and picking up all sorts of bugs. I can cringe now, but I used to be able to handle a huge frog and or lizard. As I’ve grown older, the little lizards and frog will have to do. Obviously I’m also not as fast as I used to be. I finally caught a baby lizard for the grandson to look at. As soon as we got a good look, well we let him go. Certainly his large mother was around somewhere, and might be looking for him.   The baby lizard was green. A natural for this week’s holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. He drove the snakes out of Ireland, and at this stage of my life, I would have been glad. In my life, there is no such thing as a small snake, and just the sight of one would make me wash my hands.   “True and tried- There was much adventure outside.” -2015-

Three Ways To Make Your Day Brighter (2010)

1. Step outside.

2. Plant a flower.

3. Bake a homemade cupcake.

It’s easy to find-
Some type of daily sunshine.

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose # 751 (Elvis The Lizard)

Elvis the lizard, managed to get in the house-

Minding his own business, causing a rouse.

.

For the owner, of the house, was not amused-

Elvis’ being there, could not be excused.

.

For Elvis, according to the homeowner belonged

outside-

The owner tried to catch him, over and over again

she tried.

.

But, Elvis was quick, and would jump over there-

Before long, Elvis was jumping everywhere.

.

Finally, the homeowner, caught him, with a piece

of tissue-

For Elvis, this was a very big issue.

.

Would the homeowner eat him, or just throw him

away?

Elvis wasn’t sure if this would be his last day.

.

The only thing he could think to do-

Was to play dead, so that he could manage

to get through.

.

That is what Elvis’ mother taught him at birth-

To preserve himself, for all that it was worth.

.

All of a sudden, Elvis was set down outside, on

a step-

He opened his eyes, and then he lept.

.

Into a bush, is where Elvis went-

And, then under the house, where much time

would be spent.

.

The homeowner knew that this was the right

thing to do-

To catch Elvis, and then to follow through.

.

Lizards aren’t all that icky or bad to be around-

But, in the end, outside, is where they should all

be found.

.

Elvis, the lizard, managed to get into the house,

Minding his own business, causing a rouse.

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose (Hide And Seek)

I REMEMBER BACK IN THE OLD DAYS WHEN WE’D PLAY HIDE AND SEEK-
ONE WOULD COUNT TO ONE HUNDRED WHILE TRYING NOT TO PEEK.

AND THEN AFTER THE SEARCH WAS ON, AND THE HIDING ONE WOULD BE FOUND-
THE HOLLERED WORD “IT”, BECAME THE SEEKERS’ ULTIMATE SOUND.

FOR IT MEANT THAT NOW THE SEEKER WOULD GET A CHANCE TO HIDE-
I NEVER SEEMED TO HIDE GOOD ENOUGH, NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED.

SO I BECAME “IT” MORE TIMES THAN I COULD COUNT BACK THEN-
BUT I’D STILL PLAY THE GAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

FOR THE ART TO PLAY OUTSIDE WAS IN STYLE AT THE TIME-
NOT PLAYING OUTSIDE WOULD HAVE FELT LIKE A CRIME.

KIDS BACK THEN DIDN’T WANT TO STAY COOPED UP INSIDE-
WE’D RATHER HAVE PLAYED A GAME OR TAKEN A SCOOTER RIDE.

OR PLAY HOPSCOTCH, OR A LITTLE TAG-
IN THE “TO DO” CATEGORY, OUR LIST DIDN’T LAG.

TO RUN AND PLAY JUST LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY-
JUST GIVE ME A PIECE OF CHALK AND I’LL SHOW YOU THE WAY.

ONE, TWO, HOP, AND GIVE MYSELF A CHANCE TO PICK UP MY ROCK-
THREE, FOUR, A QUICK GAME CAN APPEAR TO TEMPORILY TURN BACK THE CLOCK.

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose # 658 (Off That Couch)

The electricity went out-

And, we were suddenly bored, no doubt.

.

For we had to get off of the couch-

And, yes, that was a big ouch.

.

To act like a previous generation-

A time when TV was not a sensation.

.

To go outside and check out the yard-

To occupy our own thoughts, that appeared

to be hard.

.

To have an actual conversation-

Instead of relying on reality TV, to get the

job done.

.

For in reality we have our own lives to live-

Family endeavors in which to workout and give.

.

To focus on that sometimes takes a major

event-

Like the electricity going off, and forced time

together spent.

.

The electriicty went out-

And, we were suddenly bored, no doubt.
