No one could have know what was up ahead.

The brave firefighters and the volunteers worked

so hard-

Trying to put out that fire, trying to stay on guard.

For weeks the fire raged, and did not stall-

Taking down complete homes and the trees

that were so tall.

Mother Nature had dealt a bad hand-

Striking much and many all throughout

the land.

And, then came the day when it was finally

put out-

With tired working souls, and many homeless

without a doubt.

empty pump.

We don’t really know how much is left in the

earth-

As we continue to use it for all its worth.

To stop and think for a while-

As to how the loss of it might cramp our style.

There was a coat
that stayed in the
closet for many a
year-
There was no reason
to bring it out, as
the weather stayed
mild and clear.

But then all of a sudden
it was taken out-
Not once, but several
times no doubt.

It was put back in once
again for a good reason-
For we had declared the
end of the winter season.

Until it was brought out
again-
And to put it back, we
no longer knew when.

There was a coat that
stayed in the closet
for many a year-
But this year, what to
do with it, exactly, was
not clear.

The electricity was off for a whole day-
And it was hard for the children of the
land to find their way.

No tv shows to watch and view-
No video game points in which to acrue.

What exactly would a kid do?
In order to make it through?

The adults were having a problem too-
For they depended on the electricity to
do what they had to do.

No dishwasher to run, and no daily
soap-
For both children and adults, it was
too hard to cope.

And then the word imagination came in
to play-
And suddenly all were having a better
day.

A board game came out, and the hands
got wet washing a dish-
Eventually the electricity came back on,
the family was granted their wish.

The electricity was off for a whole day-
And even though it was an adjustment,
imagination came into play.
