It was a Monday, and it was so nice-
That I decided to put on some red beans, to have with some rice.
.
This was always done back in the day-
For Mondays were preserved for washday.
.
As the beans simmered, the clothes were washed and rinsed by hand-
There were clotheslines all across the Louisiana land.
.
To use after scrubbing and rinsing those dirty clothes-
To be hung out, and oh, they smelled so good to the nose.
.
Of course, this was just a part, of the washing chore-
For the ironing had to be done, and then the clothes put away in store.
.
But when all was over and done, it felt nice-
To know that all one had to do was boil some rice.
.
Red beans and rice after a long hard worked Monday-
Yeah, this was back, in the day, always done this way.
.
It was a Monday, and it was so nice-
That I decided to put on some red beans, to have with some rice.

1. My friend didn’t sleep long enough all night
long in line.
2. Back in the day, it was first come, first serve.
3. Governor Edwin Edwards.
===================================
Now we know that the governor did not stand in
line-
And didn’t have to, as his front row seats, when
he arrived for the concert, he did find.

She always had the will-
To travel up and down the hill.
.
The move from Louisiana to Tennessee
had been okay-
With the knowledge, that letters from home
would be on the way.
.
Some days the mailbox would be full,
and sometimes it would be empty-
But, she had to travel up and down the
hill, just to see.
.
Didn’t matter what the weather might bring-
Traveling up and down that hill was a regular
routine that was seen.
.
When the letters came it would make her
grin-
And, when they didn’t, she’d just look
another time, over and over again.
.
Home is where the heart is and when
one cannot be there-
Letters from home and that mailbox
became a great pair.
.
She always had the will-
To travel up and down that hill.
