Leftovers (2015)

We’ve all heard of spring cleaning. In the springtime we clean up after the long winter. We refresh everything, that we haven’t touched or seen in a while.

.

This is not the only occasion to do this. Several days after Thanksgiving we do the same thing, in one specific area. It’s called the refrigerator. We begin to clean out the leftovers. The cranberry sauce is in full run. The celery sticks are truly wilted, and the green bean casserole has gone to mush.

.

You still want to hang onto that bit of turkey. One more round of turkey sandwiches haven’t expired yet. It’s not that you really want one more, it’s that it would be a shame to throw out a good piece of meat. In the end, Rover will enjoy it, after many second thoughts about it.

.

In my house, there are not any black olives to throw away, for we ate them all. Actually we ate a bunch of them before the dinner got started. One of my daughters and myself just love the things. We eat them all year round, but at Thanksgiving we go overboard.

.

Another thing that had to go was the pumpkin phase. During Halloween the room fragrance smell became a regular at our house. We did the pumpkin coffee creamer, and of course we had pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. The pumpkin smoothies and eggnog were delicious too. Enough of the pumpkins.

.

We finally decided to get rid of the “real” pumpkin sitting outside on the patio.

.

Back to that cleaning of the refrigerator. It is about empty now. There is a reason that the leftovers had to be thrown out. Its now ready to be re-loaded. Christmas eggnog, and cookie dough, along with other special holiday treats. I won’t say a word about that upcoming New Year’s resolution. It is not compatible with the mentioned treats up above.

.

“Thankful for the leftovers to be thrown away-
For there is much needed room, as we prepare for Christmas Day.”

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose [G] Halloween Night

The moon was full, and the kids were out-

They had mapped out their Halloween map.

.

They went to see Mrs. Smith, who made the

popcorn ball-

She made plenty, she made enough for all.

.

Then off to Mr. Chester’s, who gave candy

corn-

And in addition, he blew real loud his

homemade boat horn.

.

Mrs. Garcia always had chocolate to boot-

When we left her house, we had scored our loot.

.

Mrs. Johnson had a variety of candy-

To trick or treat, at her house was real handy.

.

The Halloween bags were getting full and a bit heavy-

Thank goodness, Mama was following along in that

old time Chevy.

.

To unload a bit, in the car-

Then once again, to travel far.

.

From this block, to that block, the kids went

door to door-

It was Halloween night, and every house turned

into a candy store.

.

The moon was full, and the kids were out-

They had mapped out their Halloween map.

Back In The Day On Halloween Night (2014)

I remember the days when we’d go trick or treating. It was a time to dress up and go house to house, to get some candy, to fill up our bags.

We usually just put on stuff from around the house, and added a bit of Mama’s makeup. Or if we were lucky enough, someone in the family

would make us a costume.

.

I don’t remember ever speaking of the devil, per say. It was just a fun filled night. As soon as it got dark, we’d head off for our adventure.

A lot of the neighborhood would participate, and some houses would give us loads of candy, while others would give us a fright.

I can remember a gorilla coming from behind the bushes. Mr. Smith, down the street, had to have some fun too.

The most amazing thing back then was the popcorn balls that we ate. Quite a few people would make those, so we weren’t exactly sure

which house they’d come from.

.

Later on we evolved to the parents inspecting the candy, and then we could go to the local hospital, to have the candy x-rayed.

As an adult, I never could understand how that worked, but back in the day, that is just how it was. At the same time, we were always

told not to take candy, from a stranger, but on Halloween night, that thought went out the window.

Scary isn’t it? No costume required.

“Halloween was filled with fun and fright-

Evolving into the fall festival, at a particular site”.

Halloween On The Way

It’s that time of the year again. The leaves begin to fall off of the

trees and the costumes begin to appear in the stores.

We know that Halloween is coming. We see the festivals listed

and the candy sales are out in droves.

Halloween is no longer just for kids as the adults are now highly

involved.

The word chocolate comes to mind. I remember always looking

for chocolate in my bag. Of course the other sweets are cool too.

Halloween has certainly expanded. We used to make our own

costumes and now they must be store bought. The characters

have also become endless. Both scary and fun, there is something

for everyone.

Parties, recipes, and every treat imaginable. The prep is

certainly underway.

To have a safe Halloween is the real deal. To watch out for trick

or treaters on the street especially after dark.

“Trick or treat smell my feet-

Let’s all enjoy something good to eat.”

Otter Halloween

The otters were seen-
Planning for Halloween.

They knew they would cause a stir-
With orange as the season’s color.

The pumpkins were picked in the field-
Many desserts would they yield.

Such as cakes and pies-
The otter’s were happy and filled with surprise.

For they knew that many treats were on the way-
To join the otters and have a grand Halloween night and day.

Modern Mother Goose-On The Loose # 666 (Too Much Halloween Candy)

There is always a problem of what to do-
With all of that leftover Halloween candy, that we
happen to acrue.
.
To bring it to work, is always a great place-
To dump it on the co-workers, to take up
desk candy jar space.
.
Or to give it to someone, who doesn’t have
a lot-
Then all of a sudden, a bunch is what they’ve
got.
.
Some donate it to the homeless-
As they think that it serves one best.
.
It’s obvious, that after picking through-
To give the rest away, is just a good
thing to do.
.
There is always a problem of what to do-
With all of that leftover Halloween candy, that
we happen to acrue.

Three Ways That Halloween Is Different Than It Used To Be (2008)

1. We ate popcorn balls that we picked up at a strangers house.

2. The use of an x-ray machine was to check for a broken bone.

3. We actually called the holiday, HALLOWEEN.

======================================================

Happy Halloween 2008-

To trick or treat, we can hardly wait.
