- I looked out the window and what did I see?
But a glimpse of a time, that used to be.
.
The little white house was freshly painted and still wet-
The little flowers that were to surround the house, hadn’t been planted yet.
.
The fig tree was only a little bitty sprout-
The iceman passed by the house and waved, while on his regular route.
.
A young woman walked through the yard with her three little girls-
With her husband by her side, things were looking up in the world.
.
A new home, on 1/2 an acre, for all five-
A brand new start, always makes one feel alive.
.
A three room house with an outhouse to boot-
They would no longer wander, for they had finally found a place to root.
.
The children played in the flower filled yard, and eventually grew up, and moved away-
The younger woman and her husband, grew older, day by day.
.
The fig tree bloomed, and bore much fruit every year-
When the husband passed away, the old woman grieved, and shed many a tear.
.
The paint on the house had taken a heavy beating, from the years of weather-
The frail old woman, one day, just didn’t get any better.
.
The yard grew up and the house eventually had to be torn down-
All that was left, was the large fig tree filled with birds, making wonderful chirping sounds.
.
As I looked out the window, I saw how it used to be-
The memories of my Great-Grandmother, in her fruit of life, in another century.
