I cleaned out the closet-
As best as I could get.
.
It had been a while-
Since it had been done
in grand style.
.
Those old shoes-
Those papers, with much
wanted saved news.
.
That old hat box-
Those mismatched socks.
.
That little TV-
That we no longer watch
or see.
.
That dress-
That makes me look a mess.
.
Those pants-
That give my figure, quite
an enhance.
.
Couldn’t throw away that old
blanket-
For it would cause a generational
regret.
.
Still a lot in there, but, a bit more
clear-
Not really in the front, but more
in the rear.
.
I cleaned out the closet-
As best as I could get.

I saw the running legs-
They were in motion hunting for Easter eggs.
.
The eggs had been put out the night before-
By the Easter Bunny, not bought at the store.
.
Some were plastic and some were hard-boiled-
It was obvious, to see, that the Easter Bunny had
labored and toiled.
.
As he does every year, without fail-
Whether sunshine, thunderstorm, or a bit, of hail.
.
Before long, the Easter baskets were filled-
And, then the running legs were finally stilled.
.
I saw the running legs-
They were in motion hunting for Easter eggs.

I woke up and went into the yard-
I walked around and looked real hard.
.
There were no eggs to be found-
None at all were on the ground.
.
As I looked around in a gentle breeze-
There we no eggs in the tree.
.
Nor were there any behind the tree-
What could be going on? How could this be?
.
With my empty basket, I headed back inside-
I was sad, and hurt was my personal pride.
.
The Easter Bunny must have skipped my place-
It was so grim, and so hard to face.
.
And then suddenly I woke up from this nightmare-
I went outside, and much better did I fare.
.
I woke up and went into the yard-
I walked around and looked real hard.
