Around The Corner (2001)

My grandma used to say “you never know what is around the corner.” I know that she didn’t make up that expression, but there is no more truth in a saying.

When we’re younger, we think that the world is ours. we have no fear due to the fact that we have no experience in the art of living. The time clock is on our side, and as the famous saying in Gone With the Wind goes, we’ll think about that tomorrow.

Well tomorrow never actually comes but we continue to get older none the less. As we progress in life, we make plans and then comes along the regular interruptions, that make us begin to realize that there are no longer true plans, but tentative ones.

We’ll plan a day at the beach if the weather is good and the car is running well. We’ll get to that long overdue chore on our day off if the grandchildren aren’t coming for a visit, and finally we’ll take care of those dreams when the time is perfect.

The perfect time no longer exists, because as we begin to plan, we remember what Grandma always said about “you never know what is around the corner!”

Luckily many of those “you never know what is around the corners” are good. Surprises can be unsettling, but delightful when they’re in your favor.
Would I like to visit someone with ESP, in order to get a better grip on what is coming up around my corner? Of course not! I’d rather go with the flow. If we all knew everything that was “fixing to happen” (an old Texas expression), according to one of my co-workers, then we’d lose our zest for life. The unexpected whether good or bad is just the way that it was meant to be.

Grandma realized that during her lifetime, and the ideal has slowly slipped into mine.

“Around the corner we cannot see-
And that is exactly how it was meant to be!”
